Transfer Students

Transferring into the College of ACES from Another University of Illinois College/Changing Majors within ACES

If you’re already a student at Illinois, you may want to consider transferring into one of the nearly 40 majors offered by the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences. Or, if you are currently enrolled in the College of ACES and wish to change your major or your concentration within your major, the guidelines below outline the process.

Students currently enrolled in another Illinois undergraduate college who wish to be considered for admission to an ACES undergraduate program are referred to as intercollege transfer (ICT) applicants, while students who wish to change majors or concentrations within the College of ACES are referred to as intracollege transfers (also called ICTs).

Factors considered for ICT admission include the inter-/intracollege admission requirements of the new ACES department and availability of space in the chosen program. Students must be in good academic standing (not on probation or drop status) to transfer into ACES.

In the College of ACES, ICT applicants are referred directly to the departments. All departments require completion of College of ACES ICT Request Form and a meeting with the Advising Coordinator. ICT requests must be approved by the Departmental Advising Coordinator. In all ACES' departments, students meet first with the Departmental Advising Coordinator or designee to complete request form, which is then brought to the ACES Academic Programs office, 104 Mumford Hall, for
processing.

ICT applications to the College of ACES can be made during the following two campus-designated periods:

  • two weeks prior to the beginning of the early registration period for each term (note: curriculum changes will not be allowed after registration begins); and
  • one week prior to the start of instruction for the term and through the first week of instruction.

The time frames listed above are the designated times during which curricular changes can and will be processed, but please note that some departments have formal applications that are due prior to these times, so it is important to check with the department of interest as early as possible to ensure all departmental and College deadlines and requirements are met.

Before changing colleges, freshmen students are required to complete at least one year in the college to which they were admitted; transfer students are required to complete at least one semester.
